We want our students to develop into responsible citizens who are aware of global issues and able to make a positive contribution. We especially value Fair Trade fortnight, when the whole school gets involved. Each faculty teaches lessons related to fair trade and developing countries. Students can enter quizzes and competitions, design posters, and raise money for charity.
We have been developing links with schools abroad. In Germany we have links with a school in Mönchengladbach, and in Italy we have links with a school in Rome. We run regular trips abroad – this year students have visited Rome and a trip to Normandy will take place in July.
We have links with an orphanage and a school in Ecuador, and our students have raised money to buy Christmas presents and school equipment. Last Christmas, year 9 students made cards in ICT lessons to send to the children at the orphanage.
Each year, we all take part in an International Week which finishes with our International Evening to celebrate foreign languages and cultures. Students and their families can try food from different countries, have a go at sports such as pétanque, watch dancing in styles such as Bollywood and salsa, listen to students singing or watch plays in a foreign language. |
